Band of Builders teams up with Simon's Heroes and On the Tools to help Rocklands Special School

Builders and tradesmen across the country are flocking to a state special school in Lichfield, Staffordshire to help create a sensory garden for its pupils after monies previously donated for the project were stolen. The act of kindness was inspired by Mark Bennett, founder of Tamworth-based children’s charity Simon’s Heroes, who was moved by a post he read on Facebook about the theft. Simon’s Heroes has teamed up with Band of Builders and On the Tools to build the sensory garden for the school, which caters for 110 pupils aged 2-11 years suffering from a number of learning difficulties and disabilities. On the Tools is an online community for builders to connect with each other around the UK and has...

Addam Smith, who organised the renovation of Keith's house last year and fundraising drive to buy it for him and his family, said: “Keith was a friend, husband, daddy, veteran and the best grafter I’ve ever worked with....

Cakes, beards, and the auction to end all auctions

In case you hadn't noticed, we've been a bit busy here at BoB HQ. It's been an amazing year that's seen Band of Builders grow out of one man's simple desire to help his friend. We can't believe the support we've had from so many people, and every day we get closer and closer to achieving Addam's aim of buying Keith's house. Over the past few weeks, a personalised cake has travelled further than most cakes will ever go. The Christmas cake made specially for Keith started its life in Middlesbrough before travelling across the UK via 'builder courier' - taking in London, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, and the south coast. Check out its journey here. The cake finished its epic...

Band of Builders gets the thumbs up from Nick Knowles

At Band of Builders, we're over the moon that we've had a bit of celebrity endorsement - from the king of DIY SOS himself. Months ago, this all started with a real-life DIY SOS involving builders from across the country, led by Addam Smith, who carried out a full renovation of Keith's home in Lincoln. If you've followed our story (and if you haven't, take a look at the 'Keith's story' page to find out more), you'll know that project has grown into something much bigger - the Band of Builders. We're still undergoing our own fundraising to buy Keith's house for him, but we also want to help other people, so a gang of our own 'band' - including...
